Shelves with the professor's documents in Glasgow

On August 7, 1955, Professor Peter Ameisenhaufen drove alone to the north of Scotland. Three days later his car was found on the coast, near a cliff. His body was never found. His last journal entry is a letter to Helen: It is coming to an end. I don't know whether or not I am afraid. Helen, dearest, I know that you will read this. I am going and cannot take you with me. I have an appointment. If all goes well, we will start anew. If not, I wish you good luck and beg you to forgive me for the many manias with which I have tormented you these last wonderful years. Above all, I want to tell you that I loved you more than everything else in my life. I hope that we will soon see each other again. Your Peter. Helen died in an automobile accident three years later. Her little house, rebuilt after the fire, was sealed by her family. Through a whim of fate, it has been opened to us.
